ART OF GLASS

About this project:

This is a little different, though it also was a gut renovation. This is a showroom in Tribeca for a company that produces commercial glass of all types, in a loft building with windows along the entire 90-foot South facade.

The design concept was to keep the industrial loft feeling of the original space and set that against a modern display system for the glass.

The glass is mounted in a series of sliding steel racks, suspended below the ceiling on steel joists that are a nod to Tribeca's industrial past using modern materials.  Suspending the racks in the middle of the space allows people to walk in & around the racks to see how the samples react to different kinds of lighting, from different distances and with different backgrounds.

Opaque glass samples are mounted on similar grids on the wall, and the 880+ samples can be removed & combined on the fly to make thousands of combinations that the company can produce.

The whole space retains the character of the industrial loft space while highlighting the company's much more contemporary products.
